The Imo State Police Command on Monday
solidified synergy with the Nigerian Hunters Council,
Imo State Chapter, to join forces and fish out
criminal elements in the 27 local government areas
of the state .
The State Commissioner of Police, Hussiun Rabiu,
disclosed this at the State Police Headquarters,
Owerri, Imo State capital during the group’s visit.
The CP said, “The Police is going to work hand-in-
hand with the hunters to combat crime and
criminality in Imo State and South East in general.”
While expressing delight over the visit, the CP said
he had been looking for an opportunity to interface
with the group.
The CP said, “The hunters are a very important
organization in every community, the hunters can
be engaged and provide security and vital
information to security agents on the hideout of
criminals in the bushes.”
Speaking also, the group Assistant Commandant
General South East Zone, Ihe Nwosu, commended
the Commissioner of Police for the synergy, while
promising to work according to the tenets of the
law.
The Assistant Commandant General South East
Zone noted that with the partnership of the Nigerian
Police and the Nigerian Hunters Council, the
achievement recorded in the Kogi State, North East
and North West, in the fight against banditary was
achieved.
The South East Assistant Zonal Commandant,
noted that the outfit has over 2,000 hunters across
the 27 of the state, and have passed the first and
second reading at the National Assembly, while
soliciting for the approval of Police for the group to
use one of there out stations for training and re-
training of hunters in crime fighting.
Contributing, a stakeholder of the group, Barr. Okey
Ozuzu, posited that hunting activities operates day
and night, which the epi-center of hunting is in the
bushes and forest where criminals take refuge, he
added that hunters have peculiar knowledge of
track roads in the Communities, they are the
owners of bushes and forest, which according to
him, gives them the advantage of being in prime
position to see and report any crime suspect.
He appealed to the government to support the
hunters in their efforts to fight crime and equip
them, according to him, modern criminality requires
more pump action guns, mobility, amongst other
things to enhance their performance.
