Ghanaian legend, Asamoah Gyan, has apologized for using the word ‘nonsense’ while insisting that Anderlecht midfielder, Majeed Ashimeru, deserved to be in the Black Stars’ squad to face Nigeria in a 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff on Friday.
Oniftv reports that Gyan had earlier used the word nonsense after Ashimeru was not included in Ghana’s squad that was announced to face Nigeria.
Recall that head coach of the Ghana national team, Otto Addo, had named a 27-man squad to face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Kumasi.
Addo did not include Ashimeru in his squad, but Gyan has now said that he was carried away by emotions.
Gyan disclosed this in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Tuesday.
The former Sunderland star tweeted: “I still insist that Ashimeru deserves to be in this current Black Stars BUT am sorry for using the word “ Nonsense “ in my statement so I unreservedly withdraw that word, I was carried by my emotions.”
Meanwhile, after the first-leg tie on Friday in Kumasi, Nigeria will host Ghana in the return leg four days later in Abuja.
